The King's Day Committee is a collaboration of Dutch Social Groups, the Dutch Consulate, The Netherlands Business Networking Group of San Diego and our much appreciated sponsors.
The tradition of celebrating the birthdays of Dutch Monarchs started in the 1880's when Princess Wilhelmina's birthday was celebrated. It became a tradition and an intricate part of Dutch culture by making it a national holiday with parties, free markets, games, music, and merriment.
Koningsdag is not just celebrated in The Netherlands, but also by Dutch and Dutch minded communities abroad. Since 2005, Dutch communities in San Diego gather to celebrate King's Day, the birthday of sitting Monarch, King Willem-Alexander.
The event is free and open to all who are interested in Dutch heritage and culture.
Thanks to a collaboration between the Dutch consulate, San Diego Dutch Social Groups, the Dutch Business Networking Group, the Dutch School of Southern California and our much appreciated sponsors we are able to organize this event free of charge to all visitors.
